FAQFrequently Asked Questions

  • What is StoryDesk?

StoryDesk is a cloud-based content management system for the iPad that allows customers to create interactive, non-linear native iOS applications for their presentation needs. Our apps are linked to a secure, proprietary, cloud-based content management system that enables non-technical users to modify content and interactions in an app without the headaches of coding and app store approval. Real time analytics, unique “app-as-a-leave-behind,” and one-to-one publishing functionality add specificity and performance metrics to otherwise unmeasurable marketing materials.

  • What's the difference between StoryDesk and Keynote/Powerpoint?

Powerpoint and Keynote presentations are linear, non-interactive and quite frankly outdated. These programs do not fully utilize the iPad's rich multimedia display interface which enables much greater interactivity with sales and marketing collateral. StoryDesk applications are rich with interactivity as your iPad is turned into a device for both content display and data capture wherein you can measure the efficacy of your sales presentation with real time analytics. With StoryDesk's analytics dashboard, know what content is being displayed, who's showing it, and where people are tapping- all in real time. Collect data from across the sales force to uncover trends and new efficiencies.

  • What is the CloudEditor? Who has access?

The CloudEditor is our content management system which allows for quick, immediate changes to your native iOS application. Text, photo, videos, and design elements can be adjusted without affecting code or requiring app store approval. No technical expertise is required to make these changes. Changes appear in real time, on all iPads, as soon as the tablet is reconnected with the network. “Push” notifications can also be sent to your reps and prospects to notify them when new content is available. You determine how many or how few members of your salesforce have access to the CloudEditor.

  • What files formats are compatible with the CloudEditor?

Easily insert in photos, music, videos, text, spreadsheets and PDF documents. In addition to unique elements with the app, StoryDesk can easily import existing materials for inclusion within an app. Imported materials appear as static screens and can be arranged for non-linear navigation. As to other formats – StoryDesk accommodates .PNG, .JPG, .GIF, .MOV, .M4V, .MP4, .MOV. MP3, .DOC, .XLS, and .PDF files.

  • Do I need an internet connection to display my app?

StoryDesk apps are native and work without an active internet connection. All of the content caches locally and can accessed without 3G or WiFi access. So no matter where you are – in a bank vault or at 30,000 feet – you can rest assured that your app will perform flawlessly. Audio and video content are no exception. If there is new content, it is updated as soon as the iPad is back within range. The user doesn’t need to prompt the iPad to download updates. Rather, push notifications are sent to users when and if updates are available.

  • How secure is it?

StoryDesk provides SSL encryption and enterprise-grade security to ensure the integrity of your data and content. We're housed on the Amazon S3 and meet or exceed the industry standards for web and mobile security. Remote updates and tiered, password-protected access ensure that your apps can only be edited, seen, and shared by approved persons. Moreover, login protocols can mirror that of your organization to give IT centralized, turnkey control of employee access. For clients that require it, we can work with you to host your StoryDesk data behind your organization's firewall.

  • What about service and support?

StoryDesk handles all code, updates and technical support. You, and your IT department, are free to focus on core business activities. We take care of the iPad app. Enterprise clients are assigned a project manager who is intimately acquainted with your company’s app and business requirements. He/she will maintain an ongoing relationship with key stakeholder to ensure ongoing success. We recognize the iPad sales tool performs a mission critical function, and as such, we provide a high level of support and service toward a positive outcome.

  • Do StoryDesk applications work on other mobile platforms besides the iPad?

Not at this time. We are working on developing for tablets that leverage the Android and Windows OS. Stay tuned!

  • Do I need to be connected to the Internet when I’m presenting?

That’s the beauty of it! You do not need to be connected to the Internet. Your presentation won’t fail because of the lack of an internet connection. You can still take orders within your app, and they will be sent when you are again able to connect to the internet.

  • What is the ideal image size? Why are my images being resized or are blurry?

The iPad’s resolution is 1024 x 768, so you want to use the biggest images you have. Small thumbnails will appear blurry and pixilated, so make sure your .gf, .jpg or .png files are crystal clear. 1698 X 1131 is ideal.

  • Why is my iPad crashing or why can’t I download the StoryDesk app from the app store?

First, try plugging your iPad in your computer and ensuring that you have the latest software. (You’d be surprised how many people haven’t done this!) Once you’ve installed the latest version, there shouldn’t be a problem. If there is, please let us know.

  • How do I make changes to and/or update my presentation?

Updating your presentation is a breeze with the Cloud Editor. Simply log on to the Cloud Editor, make the necessary changes to your presentation. Once you’re finished, simply click the “Send to iPad” button on the left hand side of your screen. Then, open the StoryDesk app on your iPad and double click on the screen. Click the “Update” button on the upper right hand corner of your screen. When prompted to download the newest version of your presentation – click yes. Your updated presentation will be downloaded, within seconds, to your iPad. It’s that easy.

  • How do I view my Account Settings?

To view account settings, update your profile, view billing history, or upgrade your account simply click on the “Account” button located within the toolbar on the left hand side of your screen.

  • How do I report problems?

If by chance you encounter bugs and/or errors while using the Cloud Editor, click the “Report Bug” button on the toolbar on the left hand side of your screen. Include a description of the bug and the browser (Chrome, Firefox, or Safari) that you’re using. One of our technical support representatives will attempt to resolve the problem in a timely manner.

  • Any design tips to be conscious of?

Limit your screens to a basic color palette exceeding no more than three or four colors. Neon and bright tones may be too distracting and harsh, so try to avoid those. Use color as way of maintaining consistency by keeping certain elements the same color such as keeping your headlines green throughout.

  • How can I change the template on a particular screen?

Simply screen your mouse pointer over the screen and click the “Edit” icon. Then, choose the new template you’d like to use. Be aware that all text, pictures and video housed within the previous screen will be deleted- so you’ll need to replace those.

  • How do I delete a screen?

Simply screen your mouse pointer over the screen and click “Delete”.
